Chicago Congressman Jonathan Jackson to Meet with Colombian President Gustavo Petro on Saturday to Discuss Advancing Opportunities for Afro Colombians in Chicago and Abroad
CHICAGO – U.S Representative Jonathan L. Jackson (D- 1st Congressional District of Illinois) will meet in the city on Saturday with Colombian President Gustavo Petro to discuss improving opportunities for Afro Columbians in the nation’s third largest city and abroad.
CHICAGO, IL - JULY 18 Congressman Jonathan L Jackson visits Midewin, a place of healing and of coming together. In the language of Potawatomi People, Midewin means “healing”. It describes their “Grand Medicine Society” or “Medicine Lodge Society” a group of people committed to restoring health and balance to the community..
Their aim is to restore health and establish balance between use and conservation, between the needs of the future and legacy of the past.

I was honored to speak at the Korean Church Coalition (KCC) to shed light on the human rights abuses in North Korea. I was proud to stand in solidarity not only with the KCC but also with The Committee for Human Rights in North Korea, the North Korea Freedom Coalition, North Korean refugee and defector Timothy Cho, the Co-Secretariat for the United Kingdom All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on North Korea as well as many other VIP’s.
A special screening of “Major Taylor: Champion of the Race” was held on Capitol Hill. The documentary retraces the life and legacy of an American civil rights pioneer who set more than 20 world records in speed cycling during the heart of Jim Crow America. By the time he was in his early 20s, Major Taylor had captured the world cycling championship, the American cycling crown, and had set dozens of world speed cycling records – all while having to endure withering racial pressures.
