Congressman Jonathan Jackson Champions Over $22 Million in FY2024 Federal Funding for Essential Projects in Illinois's 1st Congressional District
Washington D.C. – Congressman Jonathan Jackson is leading the fight for his district in Washington, D.C., by requesting more than $22 million in federal funding to support essential projects that will greatly benefit the 1st Congressional District of Illinois. The fifteen crucial projects touch various aspects of community life, including infrastructure improvements, public safety enhancements, mental health resources, and environmental initiatives.
In a personal statement, Congressman Jackson said, "I am committed to fighting for the people of the 1st Congressional District and ensuring that our community receives the support it needs to thrive. These projects will create jobs, improve safety, provide clean drinking water, and promote a healthier environment for all our residents. The projects submitted by Congressman Jackson to the House Appropriations Committee for Fiscal Year 2024 Community Project Funding, along with their goals, include:
- 79th Street and Stony Island Ave Skyway Flyover Ramp Feasibility Study - $1,000,000 to enhance pedestrian safety and support economic development.
- Brainerd Senior Apartments – Decarbonization - $2,000,000 to increase energy efficiency and preserve affordable senior housing.
- Chicago Transit Authority’s Rail Station Customer Assistant Kiosk Security Console Project - $ 500,000 to improve safety and security at CTA rail stations.
- City of Chicago Lead Service Line Replacement - $2,000,000 to protect children from lead exposure by replacing lead service lines at daycares.
- Cook County Sec. 219 Environmental Infrastructure - $5,000,000 to address water infrastructure needs and health disparities in Village of Dixmoor.
- Mental Health Equity: Increasing Mental Health Resources on Chicago’s South Side - $250,000 to expand access to mental health services in the Chatham community.
- Morgan Street Bridge Replacement - $3,000,000 to improve safety and reliability for Metra riders by replacing the existing bridge.
- Pace Western Avenue Transit Signal Priority - $840,000 to reduce travel times, improve reliability, and decrease congestion for bus riders.
- Preserving Community Connections Along the Cal-Sag Channel: Francisco Avenue Bridge Project - $400,000 to reconstruct a critical bridge to ensure safety and support local traffic.
- Rudyard Kipling Elementary School - $1,100,000 to develop a sustainable, multi-use artificial turf field for students and the community.
- Robbins Criminal Justice Reform Project (Community Engagement and Policing initiative) - $ 250,000 to enhance law enforcement effectiveness and officer safety through comprehensive surveillance.
- Unity Parenting and Counseling Inc. Non-Congregate Emergency Shelter - $2,000,000 to provide shelter beds for Chicago youth experiencing homelessness.
- U.S. Route 6 Corridor Project, Will County, Illinois - $1,500,000 to improve safety and access for commercial vehicles along U.S. Route 6.
- Village of Evergreen Park, Cook County, Illinois Lead Service Line Replacement - $800,000 to replace 100 residential lead service lines to ensure safe water supply.
- Wilmington, IL – South Water and Sewer Main Extension - $2,275,000 to enhance emergency response capabilities for firefighters in the area.
