Congressman Jonathan Jackson Co-Chairs CBC Special Order Hour: Celebrating Black Women's Contributions to the Equal Rights Amendment

Congressman Jonathan Jackson co-chaired the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Special Order Hour on Monday, March 27, 2023. This event commemorated Women's History Month and highlighted the crucial contributions of Black women in drafting, advancing, and organizing the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) in the U.S. Constitution and state-level ERA's.
The Special Order Hour celebrated the launch of the first-ever congressional ERA Caucus, chaired by Rep. Cori Bush, and her new bill affirming the ERA as the 28th Amendment. In addition, we recognized Rep. Ayanna Pressley's legislative efforts to remove the arbitrary and unconstitutional deadline for state ratification of the ERA.
Throughout history, Black women and LGBTQ+ leaders such as Mary Church Terrell, Shirley Chisholm, Barbara Jordan, Flo Kennedy, Aileen Hernandez, and Pauli Murray have been instrumental in elevating the cause of women's equality and the ERA. The event paid tribute to their leadership and the groups that have the most to gain by the ERA's adoption.
