Rep. Jackson’s Statement on Recent Divisive GOP Legislation and Resolutions

November 9, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Representative Jonathan L. Jackson (IL-01) released the following statement on the recent divisive legislation and resolutions pushed by House Republicans:

"Instead of working to keep the government open, forge a bipartisan Farm Bill, or pass a clean Israel aid package, House Republicans have instead put forward a series of bad-faith resolutions and bills designed to inflame and divide, including H.Res.798 — which mascaraed as an antisemitism resolution, but in actuality raised significant free speech issues.

"Let me be clear, I strongly oppose antisemitism in all forms; our Jewish brothers and sisters deserve to live without fear. This resolution unfortunately conflated legitimate criticism of the Israeli government and military as somehow being supportive of the terrorist group Hamas. Students have the right to peaceful protest and expression — a right I'll continue to support.

"I look forward to my Republican colleagues returning to the people's business and ensuring the government stays open, we pass legislation that supports our farmers, and we deliver aid to the people who need it most in the Middle East."
