CONGRESSMAN JONATHAN L. JACKSON (D-IL) ISSUES STATEMENT CONDEMNING POLITICAL VIOLENCE IN THE WAKE OF GUNSHOTS NEAR TRUMP INTERNATIONAL GOLF COURSE

Washington, DC – Yesterday, gunshots rang out in the vicinity of Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida. Former President Donald Trump was present at the club, but the gunfire was not specifically targeting him.

Law enforcement has indicated that an SUV breached two security points outside of Mar-a-Lago, leading to a confrontation during which officers discharged their weapons. A suspect is now in custody.

Congressman Jonathan L. Jackson (D-IL) issued the following statement condemning continued political violence during the 2024 election cycle:

“Violence has no place in American politics. What separates our democracy from every form of government that preceded it is the triumph of the rule of law over the despotic machinations of man. We settle our disagreement at the ballot box, not on the battlefield. We must join together as a nation in condemning political violence of all kinds. Our thoughts and prayers are with the former President and all those affected by yesterday’s events. We thank law enforcement and first responders for their prompt actions in bringing this situation to a swift conclusion without any loss of life. We urge all parties to lower the temperature of our current political discourse and refocus on the needs of the American People. America is strongest when we are united, and I believe our best days are ahead of us.”

Law enforcement urges the public to remain calm and allow law enforcement to conduct a thorough investigation.
